PANGKOR ISLAND

INTRODUCTION


                  The island's name is translated as "Beautiful Island". Pangkor Island was previously a places for fishermen, pirates and was an important site from which to control trading in the Strait of Melaka. The road that runs along the east coast of the island turns west in Pangkor Town and crosses the island to one of the most famous beaches on the west cost of the island is called Pasir Bogak. This island is located about 90 km south west from Ipoh. In addition, for the most famous local product of the island is ikan bilis and other dried fish products that are provided by the locals. Moreover, foreigners are mostly attracted to the white sandy beaches and clear sea. There are many activities we can explore at Pangkor Island

There is a mini-mart within a 5 minute walk of the hotel. For those who like a nature can stay at this resort. Their environment is have a nice view like a village.

Island One Cafe will serve the best western food and cakes in town and we can watch the most beautiful sunset view at beach in front the restaurant while enjoying a fresh local seafood in local way of cooking. This restaurant also Halal for Muslim. Moreover, their prices is reasonable can afford by everyone.






Hornbill Restaurant


Cuisines: Nyonya and Malaysian
It located on the ground level at Hornbill Resort and overlooking the gardens and the Kingfisher pool, this is an al-fresco dining venue, serving daily buffet breakfast and buffet dinners. Children's menu is also available. During Wednesday is Malaysia buffet with dancing show at this restaurant.







Daddy's Cafe

Cuisines: Malaysian and Seafood
This cafe is suitable for Romantic, Local cuisine, Outdoor seating and also Special Occasion Dining
Their location is great because we can see a sunset from there but their price a little expensive.








ATTRACTION AND ACTIVITIES

Suspension Bridge

It's located near Pasir Bogak a few hundred meters in the Pangkor jungle. The shear coolness of the jungle is a great way to escape from the midday heat and a good moment to find some wild animal life. Once into the jungle it was a pleasant walk as the overhanging branches kept the sun away. There are steep stairs leading to opposite ends of the suspension bridge. It is very still and we can hear the sounds of the jungle insects. It is a relatively easy, pleasant walk.






Jungle Tracking


The highest peak on Pangkor island is 800 feet or 266 meter. There is a mountain trail from Pasir Bogak beach to the Sungai Pinang Town. Somewhere half way we can also trek to Tortoise Hill. This hill looks over Tortoise Bay. We need to wear decent shoes to avoid the leeches in the rainy season.




Canoeing

The cost about MYR 10 per hour for renting the canoe. we can canoe to nearby islands from Pasir Bogak to Pangkor Laut, and Teluk Nipah to Mentanggor or Giam islands. The equipment needed is the canoe, the life-jacket, the oar and your partner.





Snorkeling and water sport

At Pulau Pangkor, there are two island which is Pulau Giam and Pulau Mentagor are fenced by strikingly beautiful corals, sea cucumbers and fishes. Mostly tourists will enjoy this location so much because it is a great destination for snorkeling activities. Apart from snorkeling, tourists will also do a water sport activities that will keep them occupied and entertained.

Historical Site : Foo Lin Kong Temple


The Foo Lin Kong Temple is a fairly new Taoist temple. It build at the foot of Pangkor Hill in the village of Sungai Pinang Besar. The temple has a nice garden partly build on the hillside. On the roof we can see the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac. The are turtles and plenty of different fish in the ponds around the temple.



HOW TO GET THERE

There are many ways we can reach at Pangkor Island :

1. By Car :

Pulau Pangkor is about a 3 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur. We need to follow route 5 until arrive at Sitiawan. Then, follow signs to Lumut. For the public parking it cost about RM 5.00 a day. Display coupons can be purchased at many shops along Jalan Sultan Idris Shah in Lumut. There's a carpark across from the Pangkor Laut Resort Office that charges RM8 per day.

2. By Ferry :

From Lumut, there are ferries taking passengers across to Pangkor Island for about RM 6.00 one way leaves every ½ hour. There are many trips available from morning until night to reach at Pangkor Island.


3. By Air :

We can take a flights to Pangkor, it operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. But if you are coming from Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, the journey is made considerably shorter by flying direct to Penang and then transfer by road to Lumut. There are also now flights from KL to Ipoh, Singapore to Ipoh with Firefly .
